Ayutthaya ruins by road, back to Bangkok by river
The trip, in short
Ayutthaya was, in 1700, plausibly the largest city in the world. The Burmese burned it in 1767 and what stands now is a UNESCO-listed field of brick prangs, decapitated Buddhas and one sandstone head cradled in banyan roots that has become the image of the place.
We drive up in the morning while it is still bearable, cover Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Chaiwatthanaram with a guide who can explain why the heads are missing, then board a river boat at Ayutthaya for the slow lunch cruise back into Bangkok.
The river leg takes about three hours and passes the Royal Barge sheds and Bang Pa-In. It is the best-value part of the day.

Before you book
- Temples are working religious sites: shoulders and knees must be covered for everyone. Our vehicles carry spare sarongs.
- Shoes come off inside ordination halls. Wear something you can slip on and off.
- There is very little shade at the ruins. Hat, sunscreen, and more water than you think.
- The river cruise is a fixed departure. If you miss it we cannot hold the boat.

Our role, in fullCancellation & refunds
Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund to the card you paid with. Cancel later than that and the booking is non-refundable, because the vehicle, seat or greeter has already been committed.
- Refunds are issued within one business day and reach your card in 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
- If we cancel — weather, a marine department closure, a mechanical failure — you choose a new date or a full refund, whenever we cancel.
- No-shows and cancellations inside the window are not refundable. We will always try to move you to another date first.
